A Really Great Band I’ve Never Heard of 12 times Already

A stock image so you have something to look at.

I listen to a lot of algorithm-generated playlists on Spotify during my work day. They are usually pretty good at serving me up tunes that I enjoy throughout the day. Occasionally they introduce me to new artists.

Yesterday a song came on that I was really feeling. So I opened the app to ‘like’ the song to make sure I remember and listen to it again. I saw the artist and thought, “hmm, cool! That’s a new band I’ve never heard of.”

If you’re like me, the prospect of a new band in your life is an exciting feeling. Hearing a new band that jiggles something inside you makes you hopeful for the future. It’s like a first date that goes really well. It allows you to wonder, “What beautiful moments together might the future hold for us?”

So I went to the band page to dig a little more then realized that in the past I had liked 12 other of the bands songs! I’ve been having an ongoing relationship with this band for some time and I had no idea. We’ve gone on at least 12 really great first dates, but each time I leave I totally forget about them, lose their number, delete the dating app. I ghost. But the algorithm keeps matching us and I keep swiping in the right direction. There’s a spark and our private love guru, Spotify, keeps making sure we bump into each other. Thanks for watching out, artificial intelligence friend.

Anyway, let me introduce you to my new steady: Mother Falcon
