If Tom Sachs has to do it you do too
Nobody cares about what you did or what you made!
Unless you tell them about it.
Here’s some great advice from artist Tom Sachs about how you are required to tell the world about the work you do.
“One of the other rules is that you’ve got two jobs. Your number one job is doing your job, and your second job is communicating that that job has been done.
I could build a sculpture, but if I don’t make a movie about it, or promote it in an exhibition, it dies on the vine. I think that’s true of anything. You’ve gotta do it all.”
Even successful, well-known artists like Sach’s need to present and promote their work. The work must get detatched from the experience of creation, moved out of the workshop and be thrust on the public.
This goes along with the idea of always be creating with the intent to publish. Eliminate perfectionism, do the best work you can in the moment and then get it out into the world!
